Girl with Bowl shows four versions of one story. The same image four times; each created with different medium, each version a stepping stone to the next.
Returning to the same image again & again reveals cumulative insight and detail about the base image and the possible stories hidden within it. Each version shows a refined vision highlighting newly noted elements of the image or editing (removing) those that are superfluous.
The first image in any series may show the most naive version of the set or it may be the clearest; a simple and true interpretation, the vision of a ‘fresh eye’. The final version may be the most refined. It might also be the muddiest (the messiest & busiest) in overworked detail.
It’s not (necessarily) the final version of a ‘series’ that is the most interesting; the best part may be in experiencing (as viewer or artist) the process.
